Counseling for Depression
Taking the first step forward is a huge accomplishment. If you are able to recognize that you may need help by seeking counseling for depression, you are already on the path to recovery. Once you reach out to our treatment center, we will schedule an intake appointment to discuss your mental health issues, your background, and your goals for therapy.
Unlike some institutional and hospital settings, The Petoskey Center offers a small, comfortable, small space with treatment options focused on the needs of young adults, professionals, stay-at-home parents, and the like. Our IOP allows our patients to receive the support they need while still living their daily life and fulfilling their responsibilities at work or school.

Treating Depression!
As many as 40 million Americans are struggling with anxiety and depression, but only about a third of them will seek help. At The Petoskey Center, we strive to educate our patients on the benefits of our intensive outpatient program for treating depression. If they choose to work with our team, we help them build the coping skills necessary to make meaningful changes to their mental health.
As a part of your initial intake session, you will be asked to talk about your life and the issues that are causing you difficulty. The intake clinician, likely Dr. Markey, will work with you to determine a treatment plan that works for you.
Many adults with depression and other mood disorders tend to benefit from both therapy and medication. Our intensive outpatient therapy option for treating depression integrates mentalization-based therapy with Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT) and helps patients look at themselves through a psychodynamic lens.
Compared to traditional and institutional psychotherapy options, intensive outpatient therapy is a different kind of time commitment. Traditional psychotherapy may be scheduled for once-a-week sessions. For people in crisis, that may not be enough; but institutional and hospital settings may be traumatizing and too extreme for some people. That’s where IOP comes in.
At The Petoskey Center, our private practice and engaging therapy sessions are designed to be small and specialized so that our patients receive the highest level of care.
How Depression Therapy Works At The Petoskey Center, our IOP consists of group sessions, individual meetings with your IOP team leader, and usually other individual meetings with a therapist. Intensive outpatient programs create a safe space for patients in crisis to educate themselves on strategies that can help them better cope with symptoms, lead a more mindful life, and get access to the support they need.
Our intensive outpatient therapy program for depression includes: ●A specialized, hands-on approach to treatment planning ●Experienced, skillful clinicians who are dedicated to patient care and wellness ●A challenging yet rewarding environment to learn and grow ●Opportunities to learn coping skills and learn new ways of managing stressful situations ●Individual and group therapy sessions
In addition to treating depression, The Petoskey Center’s intensive outpatient program for depression also provides treatment for people struggling with: ●Anxiety ●Trauma ●Personality Disorders
