Seeking Out Counseling for Anxiety
Although individual therapy can be very useful when you are suffering from anxiety, for some people individual therapy doesn’t feel like enough. One or two hours of therapy per week just doesn’t provide the structure and support that you may want. On the other hand, you may not be ready or need to be hospitalized.
This is where the Petoskey Center IOP comes in. Our program is a comprehensive middle ground that allows you to participate in more intensive treatment without taking you completely out of your daily life.
Our program runs 3 days a week for approximately 3 hours each day. It helps patients focus on learning skills, understanding what fuels their anxiety, and practicing these new skills with their peers in a safe environment
Anxiety disorders can often come in tandem with other psychological conditions. At The Petoskey Center, our programs also provide treatment for:
Anxiety Therapists Can Help You Get Your Life on Track
Many people will report having experienced an anxiety attack at some point in their lives, but for some people with anxiety disorders, anxiety attacks can be as routine as their morning cup of coffee. If this sounds familiar to you, you’re not alone, and you have options. At The Petoskey Center, our IOP for anxiety can help you raise your self-awareness, identify your triggers, and learn self-soothing techniques to reduce and/or manage your anxiety symptoms. Our team of therapists has clinical training and years of expertise to help you navigate your path to recovery from a debilitating anxiety disorder.
Social Anxiety Therapy
While some anxiety disorders manifest as an overarching worry throughout all everyday tasks, some individuals experience their anxiety most acutely during social interactions. Social anxiety disorder is one of the most common psychiatric disorders and can be episodic or chronic.
Some people may have social anxiety and not even realize it. For decades, society has dismissed social anxiety disorder as shyness or an introverted personality type. Social anxiety is not limited to fear of hanging out with your friends; it can impact all facets of your social experience. Social anxiety can impact your ability to attend work or school and build meaningful relationships. Roughly 7% of Americans reported experiencing social anxiety at some point in the past year, and about 12% report experiencing social anxiety in their lifetime. Social anxiety therapy can help give you the coping skills to successfully navigate everyday interactions.
Our IOP is primarily group based and includes individual or family meetings on a weekly basis. All enrolled patients must commit to a 6-week program. Our program runs in 6 week cycles. Every 6 weeks, patients and their team collaborate to determine whether they are ready to discharge or if continuing for an additional 6 weeks will better meet their treatment goals.
We encourage patients to discuss their discharge decisions with their individual therapist, their psychiatrists, their Petoskey Center peer group, and their family to determine what is the best option for their recovery. Oftentimes, multiple 6-week cycles in the intensive outpatient program for anxiety are recommended to recover from significant anxiety conditions.
